More About Writing Tech Articles - A Writer's Perspective

I recently wrote an article
dealing with some of my best tips for online authors. That article dealt largely
with finding inspiration, getting organized, and just forcing yourself to write.
In the time since I published it, I've gathered a few more tips for those of
you that are still stuck. For those of you who have already found topics but
are stuck in the actual writing, these tips deal a little more with the processes
and the mechanics you may want to try out.

Writing Tech Articles - A Writer's Perspective

Although most of you know me only for my tech writing, I pride myself more
as a writer and teacher than as a computer expert. There are a lot of people
on this site and others that are vastly more skilled than I am, and yet their
writing isn't nearly as popular. Why is that?

What makes people enjoy reading tech articles has little to do with technical
skills. Reading something for information can be worthwhile, but people get
absorbed by a well-written article in a way that transcends the subject matter.

Math and the Computer Science Major

As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, computer science (CS) majors tend to struggle for reasons that have very little to do with computers. More often than not, such struggles are rooted in weaknesses related to math.

In this article, I want to show what kind of math to expect as a CS major, why these courses are important, and how to prepare yourself while you are in high school. If you plan on getting a CS degree, you need to come to grips with one important fact first: computer science has more to do with math than computers.
