Looking for a more full-featured remote shutdown and reboot utility than the one that comes with modern Windows servers and clients (shutdown.exe)? You may want to Mark Russinovich's PsShutdown. As it uses features already built into Windows, it requires no installation on remote machines in order to operate.

There are lots of free antivirus packages for Windows, but many have restrictions. For example, some are for personal use only. Others won't work on server editions of Windows.

If you've been jealous of Linux users getting to use ClamAV, you won't want to miss ClamWin for Windows users. Though it lacks a real-time scanner, WinPooch can be used to make ClamWin scan programs before they ever open.
