In 2003, AOL founder Steve Case backed out of his role as chairman. Now he's putting even more distance between himself and the merger that once seemed like a good idea.
Case says he's leaving the board of Time Warner to focus more of his time an energy on Revolution, his latest business venture. Even if that is indeed the reason for this departure, it could be a good time to jump ship considering all the recent talk of AOL being scooped up by Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo.
So are there any hard feelings between Case and Time Warner? Not according to his statement published by Reuters which hints at renewed interest from Time Warner in AOL given its apparent value to other companies.
"I strongly believe that AOL -- once the leading Internet company in the world -- can return to its past greatness... Over the past few months, I have been pleased to see a renewed focus on AOL at Time Warner, and the emergence of so many strategic alternatives."
